Efficiency of the musical societies of the Valencian Region

Abstract

Empirical applications based on efficiency analysis are still very scarce in the field of cultural organisations. This paper analyses efficiency by means of a non-radial oriented output DEA model applied to a sample of 292 musical societies in the Valencian Community. The interest in this type of cultural association lies both in its socio-economic relevance and its degree of territoriality. The results obtained indicate that the average efficiency of musical societies in the Valencian Community stands at 72.66% and point to the existence of certain specificities in the supply and demand of the provincial markets in which they operate.
